About this trip
The short version: enough of the island to feel you have seen it, without spending the week in a car. Two nights in Kandy, one at Bentota, and the drive between them broken by the Madu River.
If you have the time, the five-night version below adds the tea country, the hill railway and Mirissa.

Met at the airport and driven to Kandy, stopping at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. In the evening, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

The Peradeniya Botanical Garden — 147 acres of orchids, palm avenues and giant bamboo along the Mahaweli — then a panoramic tour of Kandy. The Ambuluwawa Tower and its spiral staircase are optional.
